DESCRIPTION:International Women's Day is March 8th - join us in celebratin
 g by coming along to this panel discussion at Wolfson!\n\nThe theme for th
 is year is #BeBoldForChange\, with the aim of generating discussion about 
 how best to effect change and forge a more gender inclusive world.\n\nOur 
 speakers will be considering and discussing questions such as:\n- What wou
 ld true gender equality look like?\n- How does capitalism perpetuate gende
 r inequality?\n- Is austerity a feminist issue\, and how does austerity af
 fect women from marginalised groups?\n- As activists\, should we be workin
 g within the system to effect change\, or should we be trying to take the 
 whole system down?\n\nThe speakers:\n\nSARAH BROWN is a transgender activi
 st and Liberal Democrat politician. She is a former Cambridge City Council
 lor for Petersfield Ward\, and for several years was the only openly trans
 gender elected politician in the UK. Her activism has included advocacy fo
 r equal marriage\, and improved provisions for transgender people under th
 e NHS\, and she has been listed on the Independent on Sunday's 'Pink List'
  of the most influential LGBT people in the UK several times.\n\nMWENZA BL
 ELL is a lecturer in the Department of Sociology and organiser of the Soci
 ology of Gender paper at Cambridge University. Her research centres on gen
 der\, reproduction and sexuality\, and the impact of gendered social inequ
 ality on bodies. \n\nANTONIA SUDKAEMPER is a PhD student who works on gend
 er equality in the workplace. She draws on psychological theories to inves
 tigate the common defensive response by men to gender equality\, and ident
 ify ways to alleviate the perceived threat.
