DESCRIPTION:*Abstract*\n\nIn their book "_The Future of the Pr
ofessions: How Technology Will Transform the Work
 of Human Experts_":http://amzn.to/2jTAsri (OUP\, 2
 015) lawyer Richard Susskind and economist Daniel
Susskind argue increasingly capable technologies -
from telepresence to artificial intelligence - wi
ll fundamentally change in the way that the 'pract
ical expertise' of specialists is made available i
 n society. \n\nThe Susskinds challenge the time-ho
noured arrangement that grants various monopolies
to today's professionals. They argue that our curr
ent professions are antiquated\, opaque and no lon
ger affordable\, and that the expertise of the bes
t is enjoyed only by a few. In their place\, they
propose six new models for producing and distribut
ing expertise in society. \n\nThe book\, which is
based on the authors' research of more than ten pr
ofessions\, raises interesting practical and moral
questions. In an era when machines can out-perfor
m human beings at most tasks\, it asks what are th
e prospects for employment\, who should own and co
ntrol online expertise\, and what tasks should be
reserved exclusively for people? \n\n*About the sp
eaker*\n\nDaniel Susskind is is a Lecturer in Econ
omics at Balliol College\, Oxford. Previously\, he
worked for the British Government - in the Prime
Minister's Strategy Unit\, in the Policy Unit in 1
0 Downing Street\, and as a Senior Policy Adviser
at the Cabinet Office. He was a Kennedy Scholar at
  Harvard University.\n\n
