DESCRIPTION:Reducing health inequalities is a battle for social justice. S
 ir Michael Marmot\, Director of the Institute of Health Equity\, will be d
 iscussing this key issue and proposing the strategies that we need to deve
 lop to confront the social gradient in health. He will demonstrate how nat
 ional policies can make a huge difference and that action in cities\, town
 s and local areas is significant. Later he will put forward the next steps
  and how we must address the conditions in which people are born\, grow\, 
 live\, work and age. Tackling the health gap will take action\, based on s
 ound evidence\, across the whole of society.\n \nSir Michael Marmot is the
  Director of the Institute of Health Equity\, former President of the Worl
 d Medical Association\, and currently holds the Harvard Lown Professorship
 . Throughout his career he has been awarded honorary doctorates from 17 un
 iversities and\, the Prince Mahidol Award for Public Health 2015. He has a
 lso conducted the Strategic Review of Health Inequalities 2010 and the Eur
 opean Review of Social Determinants of Health and the Health Divide\, for 
 WHO Euro in 2014. He is also President of the British Lung Foundation and 
 was knighted by Her Majesty The Queen in the year 2000\, for services to e
 pidemiology and the understanding of health inequalities.\n\nFree for memb
