DESCRIPTION:Finding consistent truncations of 10/11-dimensiona
l supergravity is a notoriously difficult problem.
Exceptional field theory\, a rewriting of supergr
avity which treats p-form and metric degrees of fr
eedom on the same footing\, has recently been show
n to be a powerful tool in constructing new maxima
lly-supersymmetric consistent truncations and prov
ing the consistency of the famous S^4\, S^5 and S^
7 truncations of 10/11-dimensional supergravity. I
n this talk\, I will review these developments and
show how to generalise the approach to obtain hal
f-maximal consistent truncations. I will also prov
e a conjecture by Gauntlett and Varela that any ha
lf-maximally supersymmetric warped AdS solution of
10/11-dimensional supergravity admits a consisten
t truncation to the graviton supermultiplet. If ti
me permits\, I will also show how the methods intr
oduced allow one to study the moduli of half-maxim
al AdS / Minkowski flux vacua.
