DESCRIPTION:Air pollution in China has attracted much attention worldwide 
 following the rapid industrialization and urbanization of the country. Thi
 s talk first aims at giving an overview of the current infrastructure for 
 the nationwide air quality monitoring network\, highlighting its measureme
 nt capabilities (gas and particulate phases)\, spatial and temporal covera
 ges\, and the data quality control practices.   Following this\, more rece
 nt efforts (since 2013) on establishing modelling capabilities for air qua
 lity forecast in China will be presented\, including the models used\, the
 ir relative performance in comparison to real world measurements\, and a f
 ew outstanding challenges that are specific to the Chinese atmospheric mod
 elling.
