DESCRIPTION:I will present the molecular implementation and function of th
e autoregulatory loop that amplifies and maintains the expression of Krox2
 0\, a transcription factor governing vertebrate hindbrain&nbsp\;segmentati
on. By combining data analysis\, biophysical modeling\,&nbsp\;stochastic a
 nalysis and simulations\, I dissect the autoregulation&nbsp\;process as a
function of an initiation signal that leads to promoter&nbsp\;activation a
nd subsequent mRNA and protein production. Autoregulation&nbsp\;generates
a bistable switch that turns a transient initiation signal into a persiste
nt cell fate. The duration and strength of the input&nbsp\;signal controls
&nbsp\; patterning by modulating the distribution between the cell fates.
