DESCRIPTION:Come along to the CUWCS talk given by Andrew Balmford on "Feed
ing the world without costing the earth"\n\nMeeting food demand at least c
ost to wild species and the benefits they provide us is one of this centur
y’s greatest challenges. Is it better to adopt wildlife-friendly on-farm
practices (land sharing)\, or to maximise farm yields and spare other lan
d for conservation (land sparing)\, or something in between?\n\nHis talk w
ill describe a model for evaluating these and intermediate strategies\, pa
rameterise this for five parts of the world and several different taxa\, e
xtend the analysis to consider the impact of land sparing on greenhouse ga
s emissions\, and begin to explore policy mechanisms for those land-use st
rategies which hold most promise for nature.\n
