DESCRIPTION:Human Evolutionary Studies Discussion Group (HESDG): The evolu
tion of human communication: signalling without words\n\nAcross all human
evolutionary studies there has always been a strong interest in the origin
s and evolution of language. In tackling this issue\, there are many overl
apping elements - language as meaning\, language as structure\, language a
s thought\, language as communication\, speech\, other means of communicat
ion\, and so on. We thought we would take as or central focus the broad id
ea of signalling\, and to look at how human signalling may have evolved in
general terms\, and in particular independent of the difficulties of stud
 ying language itself.
