DESCRIPTION:Understanding the burial of carbon from Earth's su
rface environment requires knowledge of the sedime
ntary processes that may change organic carbon int
o inorganic carbon\, and what then drives the trap
ping of inorganic carbon as insitu\, authigenic\,
carbonate. I will present a mixture of modeling a
nd geochemical approaches taken to address the iss
ue of what controls the formation of sedimentary a
uthigenic carbonate and how it is linked to subsea
 floor microbial metabolism.
