DESCRIPTION:In this brief presentation I want to reflect on the field of u
 rban political ecology and its current state of flux.  I will suggest that
  there are certain material and conceptual gaps in the existing body of li
 terature that we might refer to as the "first wave" of urban political eco
 logy but there remains significant potential to develop new approaches tha
 t take account of different conceptions of agency\, scale\, and the full c
 omplexity of socio-ecological entanglements
