DESCRIPTION:Gaia is the European Space Agency (ESA) mission currently deli
vering a 6-D map of the Milky Way. Gaia's very high precision imaging deli
vers positions\, distance motions and chemical elemental abundances for ov
er one billion stars\, providing the information to quantify the formation
and evolutionary history of the Milky Way Galaxy. \n\nThe imaging data ar
e processed in Cambridge\, where new discoveries are found and published.
A programme to involve the public in analysis of these discoveries is unde
rway. See http://gaia.ac.uk\n\nGerry Gilmore is Professor of Experimental
Philosophy at the Institute of Astronomy\, Cambridge University\, and UK P
