DESCRIPTION:The ICN community has been postulating a radical change to the
communication infrastructure from endpoint-centric routing to content-cen
tric dissemination. An assumption of most ICN (information-centric network
ing) efforts has been the complete re-design of applications and services\
, harnessing the benefits of the new ICN infrastructure. In the recently s
tarted POINT efforts\, we have been asking the question\, however\, how cu
rrent IP-based services could benefit from the possibility to utilize an u
nderlying ICN transport network. Our main hypothesis is that the Internet
experience would not only improve at the user level but also improve overa
ll network operations and utilization. Within InterDigital Europe\, we hav
e been leading the development of solutions for IP/HTTPoverICN\, allowing
for operating any IP-based service over an ICN-enabled network\, the latte
r possibly realized over an SDN operator network. This presentation provid
es insights into the efforts within POINT.\n\nBio: Dirk Trossen has been w
ith InterDigital Europe since 2013\, leading the network research as a Pri
ncipal Engineer. Dirk brings more than 15 years of experience in Internet
architectures to his current work and he has successfully led past ICN res
earch in his roles as Chief Researcher at BT and Senior Researcher at the
 Computer Laboratory.\n\n
