DESCRIPTION:Can cognitive neuroscience help us to understand brain disorde
rs\, or even to treat them? In this talk I’m going to discuss two proces
ses – memory and motivation – which are often degraded in patients wit
h neurological and psychiatric disorders.\n We’ve developed behaviou
ral methods to examine precision of recall and effort-based decision makin
g for rewards. Both lines of research have provided insights into some of
the cognitive mechanisms underlying short-term memory and motivation in he
althy people. In addition\, when applied to patient populations\, these te
chniques have revealed that it is possible to dissect out mechanisms under
lying pathological rapid forgetting and apathy in brain disorders.\n\n
