DESCRIPTION:The Stem Cell Institute Research Associate Committee has invit
 ed Dr. Allen Eaves\, CEO and founder of STEM CELL Technologies to give a t
 alk about "Commercialization Processes and Career Opportunities in Biotech
 "  on Tuesday 30th June at 11:30am in the Lecture Theatre of the Pharmacol
 ogy Department (next to the SCI Gleeson Building in Tennis Court Road). He
  will give a talk about the issues facing a scientist starting a company a
 nd careers opportunities in an established BioTech company.\n\nThis event 
 will be opened to everybody\, not only SCI members.\n\nDr. Allen Eaves is 
 the Founder\, President and CEO of STEMCELL Technologies Inc\, which is a 
 global biotechnology company head-quartered in Vancouver. He completed his
  BSc and MSc followed by his MD with specialty training in medical oncolog
 y and hematology. In 1981\, he founded the Terry Fox Laboratory for Hemato
 logy/Oncology Research with his wife Dr. Connie Eaves\, and was its direct
 or for 25 years.  During this time he was also Professor and the Head of C
 linical Hematology at University of British Columbia for 18 years. He has 
 been president of the International Society of Cell Therapy (ISCT) and Ame
 rican Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASBMT) as well as the f
 ounding treasurer of the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cell Therapie
 s (FACT).  Currently\, he is a Board member for the Canadian Stem Cell Fou
 ndation\, the Stem Cell Network\, Mprime\, BIRS and the Centre for Commerc
 ialization of Regenerative Medicine. In 1993\, he founded STEMCELL Technol
 ogies\, which develops and markets specialty cell culture media\, cell sep
 aration products\, reagents and instruments required for life science rese
 arch. STEMCELL Technologies has over 650 employees and distributes its pro
 ducts to over 70 countries worldwide.\n
