 re also important documents about the way we live. New digital techniques 
 allow us to view footage from the past that would have been previously ina
 ccessible\, and to use it to help us understand more about our history. Th
 is talk will introduce the amateur cinefilm collections of the Centre of S
 outh Asian Studies\, which were mostly taken in India between 1920 and 195
 0\, and will show how interpretation of just a small section of one film c
 an reveal a great deal about those being filmed\, the film-maker and the s
 ociety in which they live.
