DESCRIPTION:Project Sun SPOT\, run by Sun Labs\, has produced a small low-
cost battery-powered computing device that can be connected to a variety o
f transducers and can communicate wirelessly with similar devices (sunspot
world). It runs a Java operating system\, and both device drivers and appl
ications are written in Java. This is unusual - software for these kinds o
f devices is typically written in C or C-like languages. \n\nThe nature of
these devices opens up a whole new field of possible applications. The pu
rpose of this session is to expose participants to the possibilities\, and
demonstrate some applications that explore this space. Participants in an
application building workshop at SPA2006 had enormous fun with the device
