DESCRIPTION:\nIn this talk\, I will motivate the use of Centering-based me
trics of coherence for information ordering in automatic text production a
nd discusses how a wide range of such metrics can be defined on the basis
of the existing Centering literature. Then\, I will estimate empirically w
hich is the most promising metric and how useful this metric is using a no
vel and general methodology applied on several corpora.\n\nThe main result
is that the simplest metric (and most remote to Centering) sets a baselin
e that cannot be overtaken by other metrics which make use of more Centeri
ng-specific concepts. This simple\, yet robust\, baseline can be used by b
oth text-to-text and concept-to-text practitioners for interim evaluation
 during system development.
