SUMMARY: Fuzzy Language Models and Closed Domain Question Answering using
Fuzzy Semantics - Richard Bergmair\, University of Cambridge

CONTACT:NLIP Seminars
DESCRIPTION:The talk is derived from Richard's M.Phil. project\, in wh he
created a natural language database interface capable of matching vague ex
pressions like "a small city near San Francisco" against a relational mode
 l. It will outline some ideas behind the us logic as a more adequate model
of vagueness in natural language semantics. The talk will also provide an
introduction to other people's work on fuzzy language models such as fuzz
 y n-grams\, fuzzy regular languages\, and fuzzy context free languages\, t
hus inviting wild speculation about the nature of truth and other equally
 unscientific endeavors.
