DESCRIPTION:The field of insect immunity has been largely dominated by stu
 dies on antimicrobial immunity\, while antiviral immunity has received rel
 atively little attention. Based on a combination of basic and applied scie
 nce as well as bioinformatic approaches\, we investigate the molecular and
  cellular aspects underlying the immune dynamics of the antiviral response
 . I will comment on the mechanism of antiviral RNAi in insects and its mai
 n attributes\, such as memory\, specificity\, and effect on the virus.
