DESCRIPTION:I will present an overview of recent results in 3d gravity in
connection with holography. I will first explain why the dual Liouville th
eory to Einstein gravity can be defined everywhere in spacetime\, thanks t
o the omnipresence of Virasoro charges in the spacetime bulk. I'll then pr
esent alternative boundary conditions to the Brown-Henneaux boundary condi
tions in AdS3 and derive the semi-classical field theory dual. I will fina
lly present an example of a brane near-horizon geometry with local dynamic
s\, which therefore evades the no-dynamics conjecture\, and with features
which can be described semi-classically by nearly a CFT.
