DESCRIPTION:*Colin Huehns* is a player of the erhu (or Chinese violin) cur
 rently working at the Royal Academy of Music\, where he has taught the ins
 trument as part of elective courses for fifteen years.  This talk uses bot
 h English and Chinese language books in University Library collections as 
 potential sources for the reconstruction of melodies played on the ancesto
 rs of the erhu in the eighteenth century\, and is illustrated by Dr Huehns
 ’s musical performance on antique and modern instruments.
