DESCRIPTION:The exaggerated properties of Rydberg atoms are ex
ploited in a wide range of experiments in atomic p
hysics as well as in quantum information science.
The first two lectures of this series have shown h
ow the very strong interactions of these atoms wit
h microwave radiation are used in cavity quantum e
 lectrodynamics experiments to perform fundamental
tests of quantum laws. In this third lecture\, I w
ill review experiments taking advantage of the ver
y strong dipole-dipole coupling between Rydberg at
oms to perform quantum logic operations and to stu
dy new states of quantum matter which may lead to
 promising applications.
