DESCRIPTION:Descent Theory generalizes the topological notion of gluing to
  more abstract mathematical structures.  This talk seeks to give an intuit
 ive and accessible overview of descent theory in categories.   In addition
 \, through some basic examples\, I hope to motivate the study of necessary
  coherence conditions for general gluing.  Time permitting\, I will talk f
 urther on the connections between Descent Theory and the Categorical Galoi
 s Theory of Janelidze.
