DESCRIPTION:This talk will address the optimisation of transport routes of
barge container ships with the objective to\nmaximise the profit of a shi
pping company. This problem consists of determining the upstream and\ndown
stream calling sequence and the number of loaded and empty containers tran
sported between any two ports. You will see how this problem can be mathem
atically formulated and how MATLAB can be \nused to obtain a solution. In
conclusion\, a detailed case study transportation analysis will illustrate
how the proposed approach can be used by managers of barge shipping compa
nies to make appropriate \ndecisions and solve industrial problems.\n
