DESCRIPTION:Long before their use in information theory\, entropies have b
een introduced in thermodynamics. One may therefore wonder whether thermod
ynamics could also provide some guidance for the definition of one-shot en
tropies. It turns out that this is indeed the case: starting from an opera
tional definition of entropy for thermal systems in the one-shot regime\,
we obtain a sensible entropy measure with applications in one-shot informa
tion theory. In particular\, it automatically satisfies the data processin
g inequality and a chain rule. In my talk\, I will show some recent advanc
es as well as challenges of this research programme.\n
