DESCRIPTION:Over the last decade there has been much speculation that AGN
activity is intimately linked to the evolution of the host galaxies. Howe
ver\, uncertainties remain about how\, when and where AGN are triggered as
galaxies evolve\, and the true level of impact that the associated outflo
ws have on the star formation in the host galaxies. I will present new re
sults on the triggering of powerful quasar-like AGN\, based Gemini\, Spitz
er and Herschel observations of the southern 2Jy sample of powerful radio
sources. I will also discuss the importance of the ionized\, neutral and
molecular outflows driven by AGN\, presenting case studies of some nearby
 objects.\n
