DESCRIPTION:Research in our group investigates cellular mechanisms of epig
enetic plasticity. We aim to understand:\n\n1) how epigenetic plasticity i
s regulated by signaling pathways\,\n\n2) how epigenetic switches modulate
gene expression\,\n\n3) how these processes causes the emergence of cell
and tissue behavior.\n\nOur lab is applying the advantages of the Drosophi
la system – sophisticated genetic tools\, cellular analysis and experime
ntal tractability – to dissect these three questions in fly models of de
velopment\, tumorigenesis and tissue regeneration. The function and regula
tion of the conserved epigenetic regulators of the Polycomb and Trithorax
group complexes (PcG/TrxG) in these contexts is currently our main focus.\
n\nWe are using a range of molecular\, cell-biological and biochemical app
roaches\, such as Confocal Microscopy\, DamID profiling and Mass Spectrome
try to bridge molecular epigenetics with in vivo developmental cell biolog
 y. We hope to contribute to the understanding of basic epigenetic processe
s that function during embryonic development\, but also in contexts of cel
lular stress and injury that are caused\, for example\, by chronic disease
 s or ageing.
