DESCRIPTION:On 24 April\, 16:30-18:30\, Dr John Raven will be
giving a talk on 'Education\, values and society'
at Downing College in Cambridge. Aimed at anyone w
ith a deep interest in education\, the talk will b
 e interesting to experts and non-experts alike\, t
ackling issues such as the difference between ‘lea
rning’ and ‘learning content’ and what we value in
education as a society.\n\nResearch has shown tha
t the nurturing of high level competencies in pupi
ls such as initiative\, problem solving ability\,
the ability to work with others\, and the ability
to play an active part in society is viewed as hig
hly desirable. Yet within the current educational
system this nurturing is often eschewed in favour
of more conventional tests to the detriment of bot
h pupils and society.\n\nOrganised by the Cambridg
e Assessment Network\, the event is free to attend
and is open to all members of the public. Read mo
re about the talk and register to attend to help u
 s shape the debate.
