DESCRIPTION:"Microdroplets in Action" is a one-day symposium to bring toge
 ther leading scientists working in the area of microdroplets. Microdroplet
 s are small homogeneous droplets\, typically generated in microfluidic sys
 tems. Each droplet is potentially a unique reaction chamber in which a dis
 crete chemical or biological transformation can be carried out. Microdropl
 ets provide a conceptually new platform for carrying out experiments in th
 e physical and biological sciences. Research in this area involves device 
 fabrication\, droplet physics\, surfactant chemistry and ultrasensitive de
 tection methods. The field has developed rapidly in recent years with appl
 ications in chemistry\, biology and material science. There is strong inte
 rest in the area in Europe\, the USA and Asia and a growing number of comp
