DESCRIPTION:In our experiments we deterministically prepare ultracold ense
mbles of 1-10\nfermionic Lithium-6 atoms in two different spin states. We
tune the\ninterparticle interaction using Feshbach resonances and trap the
atoms in a\nquasi 1-dimensional optical potential.\nIn my talk I will pre
sent results obtained with a strongly imbalanced\nsample\, for which we pr
epare a mixture of one single minority spin down\nparticle embedded in a s
ample of 1-5 majority spin up atoms\, and measure the\ninteraction energy
as a function of particle number and repulsive\ninteraction strength. We o
bserve that this energy very quickly converges to\nthe many particle limit
in one dimension.\nIf we tune the repulsion beyond infinity we find ferro
magnetic correlations\,\nand thus realize the Stoner model of itinerant fe
 rromagnetism in a finite\nsystem.\n\n
