DESCRIPTION:Romantic relationships are rife with the opportunity (and nece
ssity) to put aside one's own selfish interests and provide care\, support
\, and resources to one's partner--sometimes\, even at significant cost to
one's own desires. But such acts of kindness for one's partner need not b
e without personal benefit\; indeed\, they can be highly intrinsically ben
eficial for the individual. In the present talk\, I will discuss new evide
nce of how being kind (and acting kind) can be highly beneficial to both p
arties in the relationship--and how sometimes\, it can be detrimental. I w
ill cover several aspects of relationships\, including people's sexual liv
es\, experiences of love\, and daily acts of giving and receiving care.
