DESCRIPTION:This one-day seminar will explore some of the theoretical and 
 practical dimensions of educating for peace in conflict-affected environme
 nts. Experiences from Bosnia-Herzegovina will be shared as a stimulus for 
 discussion. Conceptual themes of the day will include developmental perspe
 ctives on conflict and peace\, the role of worldviews in conflict resoluti
 on strategies\, and pedagogical dimensions of peacebuilding. Breakout and 
 plenary sessions will be dedicated to collaborative exploration and applic
 ation of these themes to participants’ own areas of focus. The seminar w
 ill appeal to those interested in issues of peace\, conflict\, strategies 
 for addressing violence in communities and schools\, post-conflict recover
 y\, reconciliation\, development\, and educational philosophy. \n\nPre-reg

 H.B. Danesh is a retired medical doctor and professor of psychiatry\, conf
 lict resolution\, and peace education. His areas of research and expertise
  include causes and prevention of aggression and violence\, post-conflict 
 recovery and reconciliation\, peace education\, peace leadership\, unity-b
 ased conflict resolution\, religion and peace\, marriage and family therap
 y\, and psychology of spirituality. He is founder of the International Edu
 cation for Peace Institute\, visiting faculty at the European Peace Univer
 sity and the World Peace Academy\, University of Basel\, and former presid
 ent of Landegg International University\, Switzerland. He has designed and
  directed a national Education for Peace programme in Bosnia-Herzegovina s
 ince 2000 and provides senior expertise to peace education programmes in s
 everal other countries.\n\nThis event is organized by the graduate researc
 h group on Conflict\, Peace and Education\, with support from the Educatio
 n\, Equality and Democracy (EED) strand and the Faculty of Education Resea
 rch Students' Association (FERSA).
