DESCRIPTION:To make headway in understanding the physics of materials\, hi
 gh quality single crystals are essential. In this talk\, I will present an
  overview of the crystal growth of various oxides (magnetic and multiferro
 ic) by the floating zone technique using optical furnaces. I will also des
 cribe the crystal growth of some non-centrosymmetric superconductors and T
 opological Insulators by the Czochralski technique and Bridgman methods re
 spectively. The investigation of the properties of the magnetic and multif
 erroic oxides\, as well as preliminary investigations of the superconducto
 rs will be presented.
