DESCRIPTION:I will talk about some of my own experiences of us
ing simulation studies to understand and evaluate
statistical methods. I will suggest some ways to c
lassify and describe simulation studies\, and cons
truct an analogy with randomised trials. I will th
en give some examples from research in missing dat
a\, including the difficult situation where simula
tion studies are used to compare methods that make
  different untestable assumptions.\n
