DESCRIPTION:HS1 (The Channel Tunnel Rail Link) is the UK’s first high sp
 eed railway\, running at an average of 300kph from the Channel Tunnel to t
 he centre of London. It is also the first piece of main line rail infrastr
 ucture to be constructed in the UK for over100 years.	\n\nIt comprises 108
 km of new route with 4 international stations (Ashford International\, Ebb
 sfleet\, Stratford International and St Pancras International)\; it requir
 ed over 28km of tunnels\, 2 major viaducts (including the world’s longes
 t span high speed viaduct) and 144 bridges. This lecture will tell the sto
 ry of the inception\, the delivery and the resultant effects of this once-
 in-a-century opportunity.
