DESCRIPTION:When both gravity and surface tension effects are included in
the water wave problem\, there are multiple families of solitary waves tha
t can be found\, including fully three dimensional localized waves in wate
r of infinite depth. I will present the bifurcation problem together with
the computation of various branches of travelling solitary wave solutions\
, followed by time-dependent computations performed in order to understand
the nonlinear evolution of wave interactions and instabilities. The rich
behaviour is remarkable\, with "quantized" energy states and complex multi
-wave interactions/instabilities. A possible simpler model for these types
of waves will also be described.
