DESCRIPTION:Almost-sharp fronts for the Surface Quasi-geostrop
hic equation are the analogous scenario to vortex
tubes for 3D Euler. In this talk I will describe
this connection and a program in collaboration wit
h Charles Fefferman to construct families of almos
t-sharp fronts with arbitrarily large gradient but
simple geometry. The existence of these families
can be used to understand the evolution of fronts
for SQG without relying on any tools not available
in the study of isolated vortex lines for 3D Eule
 r.
