DESCRIPTION:In this talk I will give a brief overview of the a
pplications of THz technology including airport se
 curity\, pharmaceutical products and semiconductor
quality control followed by a closer look at how
we can use THz pulses as a tool to aid clinicians
in identifying cancerous tissue for removal durin
g surgery. We will look at the work done to charac
terise the behaviour of THz pulses with biological
materials and how contrasts can be seen between n
ormal and cancerous tissue. The talk will end with
a look at a new medical probe which has been deve
loped for use in surgery on breast cancer patients
and an outline and discussion of future research
 possibilities.\n
