DESCRIPTION:We are developing Riemann-Hilbert (RH) approach to
scattering problems in elastic media. The approa
ch is based on a version of RH method introduced i
n ninties by A. Fokas for studying boundary proble
ms for linear and integrable nonlinear PDEs.\nThe
suitable Lax pair formulation of the elastodynamic
equation is obtained. The integral representation
s obtained from this vector Lax pair are applied
to Rayleigh wave\npropagation in an elastic qua
rter space and half space.\nThis reduces the probl
em to the analysis of certain underdetermined matr
ix RH problem on a torus.\n\nWe showed that the p
roblem can be in fact re-formulated as a well-pose
d RH problem with a shift. Some results of the des
cribed analysis will be discussed.\nPart of this w
ork is done jointly with J. Kaplunov.\n\n
