DESCRIPTION:When "Search" is mentioned\, the first thing come
to mind is "Web Search" and users will think in Go
ogle\, Bing\, or Yahoo. This is true since it is t
he most common search task by normal users. Howeve
r\, when talking about search with its scientific
 meaning "Information Retrieval"\, specialists can
list tens of tasks other than web search. Among th
ese tasks are "Printed Documents Search" and "Pate
nt Search"\, which are highlighted in this talk. T
hese two search tasks differs from web search in n
ature\, where they have different objectives\, typ
 e of users\, and retrieval challenges.\nTwo differ
ent approaches for searching printed documents are
presented.\nThe first works on overcomming the er
rors of the recognized text\, where different meth
ods for achieving this are discussed. The second a
pproach works on searching this printed document i
n its image form without doing any recognition. Fo
r the patent search task\, an introduction to its
nature and challenges is discussed\, and novel app
roaches for the evaluation of this task and for pa
 tent cross-language search are presented.\n\n
