DESCRIPTION:My aim is to provide a molecular\, genetic and phy
 siological characterisation of the pyrenoid and th
 e carbon concentrating mechanism (CCM) using Chlam
 ydomonas reinhardtii as a model organism. I have b
 een using molecular and physiological techniques t
 o assess the phenotype of several pyrenoid and CCM
  mutants. The pyrenoid mutants\, although they dif
 fer only in the sequence of the Rubisco small subu
 nit\, show marked differences in pyrenoid morpholo
 gy and CCM physiology. These mutants provide a fra
 mework to investigate the molecular basis of pyren
 oid formation and the relationship between pyrenoi
 d formation and CCM induction.\n
