DESCRIPTION:There is a polynomial invariant\, introduced by Thom in the 19
 50s\, which links the enumerative characteristics of manifolds with the ty
 pe of singularities which  cannot be avoided in maps between them. In this
  talk\, I will report on recent progress in calculating these polynomials.
