ish neighbourhoods - Dr. Daniel Nettle (Newcastle University)

DESCRIPTION:There is marked variation in reproductive behaviour across dif
ferent social strata of the contemporary English population. Most contempo
rary discussion of the early childbearing found in deprived areas treats i
t as either error or pathology. I propose an adaptive perspective instead.
  More specifically\, I argue that living fast is a coherent life-history s
trategy which makes sense in certain environments and given certain kinds
of early-life inputs. I present a series of empirical studies in support o
f this view\, and discuss its implications.
