DESCRIPTION:Collisions between planetary bodies have played an important r
ole in shaping our solar system and the evolution of life within it. Key t
o understanding the multifarious consequences of such impacts is a thoroug
h comprehension of the impact process itself. I will discuss recent advanc
es in the understanding of impact cratering through numerical simulations
 of impacts on planetary surfaces.
