DESCRIPTION:Concrete in massive structures such as dams\, nuclear reactor
 vessels or large piers of long\nspan bridges\, is subjected to true multia
 xial stress conditions (1 ̸= 2 ̸= 3). These\nstructures are usually t
 reated as three-dimensional continua with generally non-linear\nrelationsh
 ip between load and deformation\, usually expressed in incremental form {
 Δ} =\n[D]{Δ"}\, where the operator [D]\, that links the stress and stra
 in increments\, is the tangent\nstiffness matrix of the material. When the
  material is loaded to peak stress levels\, [D]\nchanges gradually as a re
 sult of developing damage.\nThis seminar presents (i) mac2T \, Sheffield
 ’s unique facility for multiaxial compression\, (ii)\nan experimental in
 vestigation of concrete behaviour under multiaxial compression and (iii)\n
 a novel experimental method for determining the evolution and orientation
 of localisation\nplanes in concrete from global stress-strain measurements
