Title: Advanc es in combined EEG-fMRI at 7T – are we there yet?
Abstract : The combination of electroencephalography (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) at ultra-high field (7 Tesla) offers app ealing new possibilities to probe human brain function non-invasively with high coverage\, millisecond temporal precision and sub-millimetre spatial precision\, unravelling cortical layers and small subcortical structures. Unfortunately\, this technique has previously remained largely inaccessib le at 7T\, due to prohibitive cross-modal interference effects and physica l constraints. In this talk\, I will cover recent work by our group and in dustry partners exploring a new EEG-fMRI acquisition framework combining k ey hardware and algorithmic improvements\, which enable safe\, high-qualit y recordings at 7T\, including sub-millimetre fMRI resolution. I will desc ribe our findings regarding the safety and functional sensitivity of this new setup\, and share some early insights into its use for the study of ne ural network activity.
Bio: Dr. João Jorge is an R &\;D expert at the Medtech BU of CSEM – the Swiss Center for Electron ics and Microtechnology\, where he drives research on new tools for biomed ical sensing\, inside and outside the lab\, particularly in the domain of brain health.
