DESCRIPTION:
Thanks to the perpetu
al fall of snow in glaciated regions\, an ancient climate history is prese
rved in the glaciers around the world. Ice cores extracted from glaciers r
epresent a detailed archive of climate proxies that link to complex geophy
sical processes. The reconstruction of the age of the ice at depth is a cr
ucial first step for the interpretation of such ice core records.</
p>
In this talk I will summarise m
y research in the field of ice-core timescales\; from how ice cores are da
ted and matched to other paleoclimate archives (like tree rings)\, to how
revising timescales is sometimes necessary to correct biases and improve o
ur understanding of ice proxies.
