DESCRIPTION:Environmental social scientist and Hughes Hall alumnus Dr Jonn
y Hanson presents a talk and film exploring one of the most compelling and
controversial environmental debates of our time:\n\nShould we learn to li
ve with large carnivores—such as lynx and wolves—again in the UK?\n\nF
ollowing last year’s illegal release of four lynx into the Scottish High
lands\, public interest has surged—alongside tensions. Drawing on his re
search\, Dr Hanson cuts through the hype and headlines to offer grounded\,
evidence-based perspectives on this complex issue.\n\nThe event features
a screening of Snow Leopard Trail\, a 20-minute film based on Jonny’s Ca
mbridge PhD research and his ongoing collaborations in the Himalaya. The f
ilm explores what UK communities might learn from Nepal\, where people alr
eady coexist with large carnivores.\n\nDr Hanson will also introduce his b
ook\, Living with Lynx\, a compelling science travelogue that brings toget
her insights from over seven countries. Through interviews\, field visits\
, and personal stories\, it examines the real-world challenges and possibi
lities of reintroducing large carnivores to Britain and Ireland.\n\nAlongs
ide the film screening\, the talk will weigh the arguments for and against
lynx and wolf reintroductions—brought to life with stories\, visuals\,
 and interactive elements.\n\nExpect stunning landscapes\, thought-provokin
g ideas\, and an opportunity to reflect on the future of wildlife in the U
 K.
