DESCRIPTION:The Ukraine War Archive is a groundbreaking technology project
that gathers\, preserves\, and analyses digital media related to the Russ
ian invasion of Ukraine. Formed as a non-profit organisation\, UWA is now
the most societally-comprehensive record of the war: a live\, continually
updated digital platform with over 40 million data points covering the mi
litary\, civil\, social\, and physical impacts of the conflict. UWA is al
so remarkable for its innovative use of decentralised technologies\, and a
lso for how it was created: by a team of self-organising civilians\, compl
etely independent of Government and industry\, and financed by charitable
donations.\n\nEmmanuel College is pleased to invite you to a conversation
between UWA founder Maksym Demydenko and Professor Alex Jeffrey\, discussi
ng the extraordinary story of how the archive was created. This talk is p
lanned as the first in a short series\, with future events to include film
screenings and workshops exploring the implications of the issues raised
for the wider Cambridge community. This talk is open to all and there is n
 o need to register.
