DESCRIPTION:As scientists\, we are not only expected to do excellent resea
rch\; we are also expected to have an impact on society. One way to have s
uch an impact is through public engagement. However\, the effectiveness of
these activities is often not measured and the methods underpinning the a
ctivities are rarely evidence-based.\n\nIn this lecture\, Erik van Sebille
\, Professor in Oceanography and Public Engagement at Utrecht University\,
will give an overview of what is known (and unknown) about the effectiven
ess of public engagement by academics. He will particularly focus on advoc
acy and activism\, and discuss to what extent\, when and how (climate) sci
entists can be activistic in the public domain.\n\nComplete this "registra
